The breakeven analysis below contains some of the most common cost elements in the comic book creation process. Default values are for illustrative purposes only and should not be considered industry standard. Each cost element has a large amount of variability. Keep in mind that selling more than a few thousand comics through the direct comic retail channel is uncommon for indie projects. Attaining higher unit targets requires additional selling through additional channels (digital, shows, non comic retailers, direct customer esales, etc). In addition, the model below is based on a flat sales trends. Typical direct market sales trends see a 30%-50% drop in sales from the 1st issue to the 3rd issue in a series largely because of the preorder timing in the direct market.
